Get Summer Ready with Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal treatments use light energy to permanently eradicate hair follicles—generally on the back, legs, underarms, or face—to prevent hair from growing back. The FDA says laser hair removal dramatically reduces the amount of hair you have by about 70%. While it may not rid hair regrowth forever, the hair that grows back usually is much finer and less noticeable.

Since everyone is different, there’s no set rule on how many sessions you’ll need and when you’ll need them. Usually, people have six to eight laser hair removal treatments staggered every four to eight weeks to see the best results and an annual maintenance session.

Different body parts require different schedules, too. We recommend four to six weeks between laser hair removal treatments for the face and then six to eight weeks for anyplace else on the body. This is because the hair growth cycles on different parts of the body vary.

“It’s smart to start a series of treatments in the late fall or early winter to have smoother skin by summer.”

What is the treatment like?

At Eternally you Clinic, we use the best and safest laser on the market; the LightSheer Duet Diode laser by Lumenis. It is fast, very effective, and much less painful than the other hair lasers. It uses a suction device to decrease pain.

Each treatment may take up to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Smaller areas like the upper lip, ears, the chin can be treated in less than a minute, while large areas like the back or legs can take up to an hour.

Then the laser equipment will be adjusted to your skin color and hair thickness.

You’ll need to put on special eye protection, so the laser light doesn’t damage your eyes. Your doctor may also use a cold gel or cooling device to protect your skin and help the laser penetrate.

During the treatment, the laser emits a concentrated beam of light to damage the hair follicle and prevent regrowth. While your provider methodically treats one small area at a time, you may feel mild discomfort, like a warm pinprick or snap, as the laser passes over your skin.

When the procedure is done, you may be given ice packs and anti-inflammatory creams to help keep swelling down and soothe any irritation.
